Middle-distance runners Caster Semenya and Dom Scott-Efurd will compete at the third leg of the IAAF Diamond League series in Eugene this weekend, after being included in the provisional start lists for the Prefontaine Classic.
World champion Semenya will turn out as the firm favourite in the women’s 800m race.
She faces a full-strength line-up, however, and will have to be at her best against a field which includes Olympic medallists Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi and Margaret Wambui of Kenya, as well as American record holder Ajee Wilson.
While Scott-Efurd is unlikely to challenge up front, she will have a chance to chase a personal best when she turns out in the women’s 5 000m race.
She will line up against the likes of Kenyan world champion Hellen Obiri and 1 500m world record holder Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia.
The women’s 800m race will be held at 10.10pm (SA time) on Saturday night, and the 5 000m contest will take place at 11.10pm.
