Bringing a spectacular close to the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League in Pretoria on Sunday, defending champions the Gauteng Jaguars edged out the Western Cape Southern Stings with a 49-47 victory to secure their second straight title.
Competing in their fifth successive final, the Jaguars took the early advantage, holding a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Stings hit back, however, and were 24-21 ahead at the half-time break.
Maintaining their momentum, the Stings held off their fancied opponents in the third quarter and were still three points clear (36-33) heading into the last stanza, with an upset on the cards.
But the Jaguars kept their composure and managed to close the gap, with the sides drawing level at 47-47 with two minutes left in the game.
Pulling clear in the dying seconds, the title holders bagged a narrow win, becoming the first team to go unbeaten throughout the league season.
Earlier at Rembrandt Hall, in the third-place playoff, the North West Flames earned a thrilling 66-64 victory over former champions the Free State Crinums in extra time.
In another seesaw match, scores had been level at 27-27 at half-time and remained level at 49-49 at the end of regulation time.
