Building on his fine form this season, big-serving South African Kevin Anderson has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters tournament at Indian Wells.
Though he was given a fight by Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain in the fourth round on Wednesday night, Anderson hit back from a set down to clinch a 4-6 6-3 7-6(6) victory.
Anderson, the No 7 seed, was set to meet Croatia’s Borna Coric for a place in the semifinals.
Defending doubles champion Raven Klaasen, the only other South African in the main draw of the tournament, was eliminated in the second round with Michael Venus of New Zealand.
Klaasen had won the Indian Wells doubles title with former partner Rajeev Ram of the United States last year.
