A 22-member national team will turn out in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30, it was revealed on Tuesday, with Athletics South Africa unveiling the final squad for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
The full-strength team, who passed fitness tests at a trials session in Potchefstroom earlier this month, featured a mix of experienced athletes who were expected to lead the charge, as well as some of the country’s most talented young distance running prospects.
Along with full-strength junior teams, the senior men’s squad included the likes of powerful front-runner Precious Mashele, steeplechase specialist Rantso Mokopane, and rising stars Ryan Mphahlele and Kabelo Seboko, while the senior women’s team would be spearheaded by the likes of versatile athlete Kesa Molotsane, Olympian Dom Scott-Efurd and in-form road runner Glenrose Xaba.
