South Africa’s preparations for the Netball World Cup will start in earnest when the SPAR Proteas go into camp in Pretoria from April 28 to May 5.
Eight of the country’s top netball players featuring in the three best netball leagues in the world in Australia, New Zealand and England will not be involved in the camp.
Karla Pretorius, Phumza Maweni, and Ine-Marie Venter are playing in Australia while Bongi Msomi, Shadine Van de Merwe, Maryka Holtzhausen, and Sigi Burger are in England.
Proteas shooter Lenize Potgieter is the only South African plying her trade in the ANZ Premiership in New Zealand.
South Africa will take on Wales in an away pre-World Cup warm-up series in early July.
SPAR Proteas head coach Norma Plummer, who coached the Australian Diamonds to two World Cup gold medals, said the entire team would not be able to get together until their arrival in Wales due to international commitments.
The final team will be announced on the 26th of June 2019.
“We leave South Africa on June 28 and have four days preparation before the two Test matches on July 4 and 5.
“We leave Wales for Liverpool on July 6, and will continue our preparations for our first match at the World Cup on July 12 against Trinidad and Tobago.”Norma Plummer
