South Africa’s rising singles tennis star Lloyd Harris reached the semi-final of the Oracle Challenger Series event in Indian Wells on Friday evening
Harris made a stunning start to the set up a meeting with world number 27, Kyle Edmund of Great Britain in Saturday evening’s semi-final.
Harris dispatched Italy’s Salvatore Caruso 7-6, 6-3 in Friday evening’s quarterfinal to reach the penultimate round in California.
The 22-year-old breached the world top-100 last month after clinching his third career ATP World Challenger Tour event in Tasmania joining number five Kevin Anderson.
It is the first time since 2004 that South Africa has had two players in the top-100 when Wayne Ferreira was ranked 47 and Wesley Moodie at number 88.
Edmund beat South Africa’s number-one player Anderson in the first round of last year’s Australian Open where he reached the semi-final.
Should Harris survive the challenge he will face the winner of the other semi-final between Andrey Rublev and Dan Evans.
