Displaying typically consistent form, the Blitzboks have flaunted their ability in the early stages of the 2017/18 season, as they prepare to defend their title at the Commonwealth Games.
The national side opened their campaign with a victory at the Dubai leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series, and while they settled for third place at their home leg in Cape Town, they went on to reach the finals in Sydney and again in Hamilton earlier this month.
“Of course you want to reach finals and win them like we did last year in New Zealand and Australia,” said Seabelo Senatla, who scored eight tries in the Hamilton tournament.
“But reaching both finals (in Australasia) showed some consistency in our effort, and that is something we are also looking to maintain.”
Following their impressive run of form, the defending champions took the lead at the top of the series standings, eight points ahead of New Zealand, ahead of the US leg in Las Vegas next month.
They also fired a warning at their opponents in the build-up to the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast in April, where they hoped to retain the crown they won for the first time in Glasgow four years ago.
