South African doubles specialist Raven Klaasen and Kiwi partner Michael Venus caused a stunning upset beating the Bryan brothers in the semi-finals of the Auckland Open.
The SA-Kiwi combination was in hot form beating Bob and Mike Bryan 6-4, 6-1 in 53 minutes on Friday.
The duo punched above their waist with their victory over what is considered the greatest doubles pairing in tennis boasting 114 doubles titles.
Klaasen and Venus will play in their sixth tour-level final going in search of their second title when they go up against
They will face Japan’s Ben McLachlan and Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany in Saturday morning’s final in a repeat of last year’s title match at the 2018 Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships.
Struff and McLachlan beat Klaassen and Venus 6-4, 7-5 to retain the title.
Klaasen and Venus reached last year’s ATP Finals finishing among the top-eight partnerships of 2018.
